Research Project Data Analysis

Names:  Alice Alverno and Sally Student

Project Title:  Effect of airline travel on cognitive ability

Hypothesis (must be a statement):

Cognitive ability is negatively correlated with hours of airline travel.

Independent variable(s):

Airline travel (hours)

Dependent variable(s):

Ability to solve mathematical equations

Summary statistics (means and standard deviations, etc.. Round to 3 or 4 significant digits):

Math Scores: Mean =  6.56 correct (out of 10), Standard deviation = 1.42, Range 3 to 10

Hours of airline travel: Mean = 2.78, Standard deviation = 2.77, Range 0 to 12

Statistical test used: Correlation (linear)

P-value or r2: r2 = 0.49

Attach your data sheets, with labels.

Attach your graph(s) of your summary data.  Remember to label your axes and provide a descriptive legend if necessary.  Include error bars (can be hand-drawn) or regression line.

State in one or two sentences how your analysis of data supports or refutes your hypothesis.

Our data supported our hypothesis.  There was a moderate negative correlation between how long a subject had been flying on an airplane and how well they did on the math test.
